President Muhammadu Buhari just signed into law the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Bill thereby making it the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act. The New Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act repeals the Consumer Protection Act, Cap. 25, Laws of the Federal of Nigeria, 2014. 8 RIGHTS OF ELECTRICITY CONSUMERS IN NIGERIA Two weeks ago, some staff of the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company came to my house, demanded for our electricity utility bills which we immediately handed over to them. After they had checked them and found that we did not default in payment, they then claimed that the former occupants of the house had some outstanding bills which they did not pay before leaving the house. It was due to that reason they disconnected our power supply and left us in darkness for one week.
